The NIST5 algorithm is ASIC resistant and utilises a combination of five hashing algorithms, Grøstl, Skein, Blake, Keccak and JH. The name is derived from two things; the developers of the algorithm were from the the National Institute of Standards and Technology, or NIST for short and the five hashing algorithms it uses. Hence, NIST5. Several algorithms were submitted into the NIST hash function competition back in 2012, these were the five finalists.
Currently, we list 9 cryptocurrencies for the NIST5 algorithm.
